i arrived at the zoo aboard my trusty packaderm walter. any further travel needed to be done on foot due to the small children and flash bulbs startling the elephant.

right as i entered the zoo there was a playground located across from the goat feeding area. there were many kids playing on the various rides located in the wood chipped area. specifically, the red see-saw must've not been oiled in some time since it was creating a loud squeaking noise as the children rode it up and down. to create a nice ambiance i have the right mic on my right directed towards the see-saw and the left mic on my left towards the swings as i faced the whole playground area.

inside of the aviary at the zoo they have the birds freely flying around you. there are many areas of water as well as plants and flowers scattered all over the place. ride next to the bridge in the aviary is a large waterfall with some birds playing. in this recording, the left mic was held in front of me right next to the waterfall where the water was splashing against the pond. the right mic was held behind me to capture some unique ambiance.

at the zoo they have machines spread out all over the park which make a wax mold of various animals. as a child i always remembered looking forward to this experience because of the unique noise the machine made as well as smelling and feeling the hot wax mold as it was drying in my hands. in this recording i held the left mic next to the coin slot on the machine and the right mic was held next to the area on the machine where the mold is pressed together.

another great memory as a child when visiting the zoo was riding on the miniature steam engine train that goes all around the park. the mics were positioned one in each window so i could catch the sounds from each side of the train car as it moved. the train ride is recorded in its entirety to simulate the real experience.
